Celebrate World Spine Day: Prioritise Your Spinal Health

model of a spineWorld Spine Day, celebrated annually on 16 October, is a global initiative aimed at promoting good spinal health habits. Organised by the World Federation of Chiropractic, with support from over 600 organisations worldwide, this day encourages everyone to focus on the importance of staying active, maintaining good posture, and caring for their spine in all aspects of life.

Support Your Spine in 2024

This year’s theme, “Support Your Spine,” draws attention to the rising incidence of spinal pain and disability. A lack of physical activity and immobility are significant contributors to spinal issues, with low back pain affecting 619 million people globally in 2020 – a number expected to reach 843 million by 2025. In fact, low back pain remains the leading cause of disability.

To help fight this trend, World Spine Day 2024 encourages individuals to stay active, avoid overloading their spines with heavy lifting, and adopt healthy habits such as weight loss and smoking cessation. By prioritising spinal health at home, in the workplace, and in schools, people may prevent unnecessary pain and disability.
