How Stress Affects Your Body and Health

Man holding noseHealth challenges rarely appear overnight.

More often, they develop gradually as the body experiences repeated stress over time.

These stressors usually fall into three main categories.

1. Physical Stress

Physical stress includes injuries, accidents and repetitive strain. Childhood falls, sporting injuries or even long hours sitting at a desk can place strain on the body.

Even birth itself can introduce physical stress to the spine and nervous system.

2. Chemical Stress

The body is also exposed to many chemicals every day. These may include medications, environmental pollutants, processed foods and substances absorbed through the skin.

Over time, these exposures can influence how the body functions.

3. Mental and Emotional Stress

Mental stress can have a powerful effect on the body. Work pressure, relationship challenges, financial concerns or ongoing worry all place strain on the nervous system.

The body responds to emotional stress in much the same way it responds to physical injury.

The Accumulation Effect

Each stress may seem small on its own. However, when these pressures accumulate over months and years, the body can gradually lose its ability to adapt.

Eventually, something as simple as bending over, waking up stiff or experiencing persistent fatigue may be the moment the body signals it can no longer compensate.

Supporting the body’s ability to adapt to stress is an important part of maintaining long-term health.
