Why Practise Gratitude?
Studies have shown that gratitude can enhance mental health, improve physical wellbeing, and deepen social connections. Robert Emmons, professor of psychology at the University of California, Davis, and one of the world’s leading experts on the science of gratitude, wrote the following in his book The Little Book of Gratitude:
Prompts to Inspire You
To help you get started, try this daily gratitude practice:
- Day 1-10: Focus on the present. Reflect on those moments of joy, like enjoying your morning cup of coffee, watching a beautiful sunset, or receiving a kind text from a friend you haven’t heard from in a long time.
- Day 11-20: Turn your focus to people. Write about friends, family, or mentors who’ve made an impact on your life. Maybe it’s someone who helped you recently or who has always been there for you.
- Day 21-30: Appreciate the challenges. Consider how even difficult experiences may have brought new insights or strengths. This can be more challenging, but it’s a rewarding part of the journey.
